hi there.
my external hard disc has recently been infected by Autorun.inf and networm-kido. so, installed autorun eater to help me solve this problem. however, after few hours of scanning, nothing happened. how can i know if the scanning is running? Is it smtg wrong with my installation?
thank you so much for answering.

Old McDonald: Hi, there's actually nothing wrong with your installation. Autorun Eater doesn't actually scan your whole computer but it monitors all your drives and warns you only if a suspicious autorun.inf file is found. So if there's no warning, there's probably no autorun.inf file in any of your drives. Also, not all variants of the Conficker(Kido) worm use the autorun.inf method to spread. What are the symptoms you're experiencing that you're sure the problem is due to an autorun.inf file?

If you want to fully disinfect your computer, it is recommended you download a free Conficker removal tool or use an updated antivirus. If this doesn't solve your problem, please feel free to reply. Thank you! :)

Hi, I am having a problem in which I have searched google and have found no problem concerning autorun eater.

I right click on the safety cone icon (autorun eater)

And I click on "Scan Drive (A:), but this pops up

! Could not scan drive (a:)

It does not exist, does not contain any media or the media
                  is corrupted, eg. Floppy.

That happens also with the drive (b:) option

I am running vista 64. Was I suppose to download a separate installation?
I installed the newest download of Autorun Eater 2.3.

I appreciate your time and effort in this project. Thank you.

Old McDonald: Those messages appear because there's probably no drive A: or B: on your computer. Autorun Eater monitors all other drives(C-Z) in real time so there's no need to manually choose a drive to scan. So I guess you have the right installation file.

I hope that answers your question, if not, please feel free to reply. Thank you! :)

Hi I came to this via Security Garden (Corrine MVP) who had a link to Donna's Security page who had a link to this page. As I am a member of of winvistaclub forum and this is such an import piece of security I would like to mention it there with a direct link to you if that is ok. This is really a great product that needs a wider audience

Old McDonald: Hi there and welcome here. You're free to mention it there if you would like to do so and yeah, it does help to get more people to try out Autorun Eater. Thank you!

Thanks for the effort. My Mcafee program still recognizes this as a program to delete. I had to disable everything and run it, and then as soon as I enabled McAfee, it removed AE. I hope they get around to fixing that, but somehow I doubt it.

Anyway, when I ran the program, there was no progress bar or anything to tell me when it would finish. Is this just a program that you are supposed to keep running indefinitely? If this is the case, it worries me that only when I chose to "exit", did the results come up and prompt me to delete an autorun.inf file.

Old McDonald: About the McAfee problem, we will try to contact them again and solve it.

Also sorry for the confusion that arises from the so called 'scanning' status. Autorun Eater actually monitors and not scans like what an antivirus software does, with the progress bar and everything. It monitors the drives in real-time and when a suspicious file is found, only then a warning message appears. So we recommend you allow Autorun Eater to run at all times.

I hope that answers your confusion, if not, please feel to reply. Thank you!

Worm was detected yesterday by AVG DB 270.10.5/1882, which is the last update. I will reinstall Autorun Eater and see what happens.
Thank you so much for the help.

Regards.

Old McDonald: Seems to be fine on my computer with AVG running. You're welcome! :)

Hi!
After removing a Trojan DNS changer, problems on running SpywareBlaster are now fixed.
On 30th Nov I downloaded and installed Autorun Eater v2.3 which ran ok till today when AVG detected Worm/Autoit.LBH on C:\Programs\Autorun Eater\oldmacdonald.exe. Is this true or a false positive? Can you help me, please?

Old McDonald: It is a false positive which has been fixed by AVG. Try reinstalling Autorun Eater again and see if problem persists.
