As promised, your Autorun Eater v2.4 parcel has arrived!
So what’s in the parcel?

Added: ‘Close Autoplay’ option to prevent execution of malware via AutoPlay window.
Removed: ‘Scan Started… Right Click For Menu’ tray tip during launch.
Changed: aesettings.ini file, results.log file, and Autorun Backup folder relocated to application data folder for compatibility with Windows Vista & 7.
Changed: Improvements to monitoring engine.
Changed: Minor tweaks to program behaviour.
Changed: Minor tweaks to program GUI.
Changed: Minor tweaks to installer.
[Fixed]: Unable to ignore suspicious ‘autorun.inf’ with read-only attribute.
There were feedbacks that v2.3 settings could not be changed on Windows Vista & 7. This version should solve that problem and work as expected. When installing v2.4, it will automatically move the aesettings.ini file, results.log file and Autorun Backup folder from previous versions to the application data folder.
For more info, you can also visit our FAQ page. Please feel free to submit any suggestions, report any bugs or anything you’d like to tell us.
You can install the new version over the old version(exit v2.3 first).
If you enjoy using Autorun Eater, please feel free to donate.

Very useful piece of software! Autorun Eater v2.4 detects lot.exe and hx.exe as “Suspicious autorun.inf Detected”. How does one remove these files manually as requested since I can’t find them and they keep getting detected. Also how do I disable Autorun in the first place?
Old McDonald: Thank you for the compliments!
When Autorun Eater removes the suspicious autorun.inf, it prevents the suspicious file(eg. lot.exe & hx.exe) from being executed when you double-click to access the drive. To remove the suspicious files easily and safely from the infected media(and the computer if you think it is infected), I would recommend using an updated antivirus.
Contrary to what most people say, malwares on removal storage devices like pendrives do not run automatically(only CD/DVDs) the moment you plug it in, instead, it only gets executed when you double-click to access the drive or when you click on a spoofed option in the Autoplay window. Autorun Eater has features to prevent both from happening without modifying any of your computer’s settings while retaining full autorun functionality.
If you find the Windows’ autorun function useless to you, you can try a trick highlighted by Nick Brown here. It will disable all functions associated with autorun.inf files. Listed there are also the pros and cons.
Hope that helps, if not, please feel free to reply. Thank you and have a great day!

This version is better than v2.3. Antivirus programs doesn’t report this anymore as a threat unlike the older version wherein it is being detected by some AV’s as a trojan or something that threatens the system. Good job on this one. ^_^
Old McDonald: Thank you for the compliments! Yup, older versions Autorun Eater suffered from false positive detections by antivirus softwares but we hope this one doesn’t get tagged too. Keeping fingers crossed.

Just a quick question: If I have used the tool “flash-disinfector”, is there an advantage to running autorun eater?
(Flash disinfector -I believe- creates a type of “immunity” to autoruns or “ini’s” running, by creating its own .inf file at the root of every drive, which is supposed to also prevent new autoruns.)
Old McDonald: I’ve tried Flash Disinfector before and I didn’t like how it created an autorun.inf folder with an undeletable file in it. The file can be deleted via CMD if you do little research on Google though. This can help to prevent the creation of new autorun.inf files by malwares but at the same time prevent legitimate autorun.inf flles from being created. Legitimate ones include those used to change the drive icon. Furthermore, this kind of ‘immunity’ may sound good but it doesn’t totally prevent malwares from deleting the file and not all users like the idea of undeletable files being created on their drive. This is the main reason why Autorun Eater does not include such ‘immunity’ feature.
With Autorun Eater, you get real-time protection, the ability to easily view the contents of the suspicious autorun.inf file, the file it will attempt to execute, and of course, choose to either remove or ignore it. Backup copies of removed files as well as log files are also created for future reference.
I hope this answers your question.

Just found out about this program on the Avast forum. So I decided to have a look. Two words: Very impressed. Especially with the attention to detail in the help file, which even lists the file and registry changes made during installation of the program.
And the goat bleat rocks. No need to change it. Certainly would not mind a manual scan option for each (and any) drive, USB included, as suggested by nabbe.
Thanks for a good bit of kit.
Old McDonald: Thank you for the compliments and for trying out Autorun Eater. About the sound, well, some love it, some do not, a matter of preference I guess, haha. As for the suggestions regarding the option to manually scan a drive, I’ll look into that. Thank you and have a great day!

Awesome product! I spent a week trying to get rid of about 7 autorun viruses that attacked. Your product did it in about 10 seconds. Fantastic!
Not a great fan of the goat splash screen but i’ll live with it.
Am recommending it to all my varsity friends cos we swop flash sticks all the time.
Thanks again
Old McDonald: Thank you for the compliments, glad you found it useful. Have a great day!

i like autoruneater but i don’t like the goat sound
. i think a sound “ting ting” or something short are better. sound like a bell in farm, not a goat
Old McDonald: You can always choose to enable/disable the sound under the tray menu settings. To change the sound, all you need to do is obtain a .wav audio file and replace the sound.wav file in the installation folder with the same name. That’s it!

I think it would be great if you could implant a feature with which the software can scan any drive in the computer manually. and embed the option in right click menu. Its a great piece of work. Thank you
Old McDonald: Thank you for the suggestion and compliment, will look into that. Awesome looking photographs you have there on your Flickr page!

At last.. removed ‘Scan Started… Right Click For Menu’ tray tip during launch. Thanks for creating this useful tool.
Old McDonald: You’re welcome. Haha, yeah, at last… a number of users have been requesting for the removal and since it serves no real purpose, I’ve decided to remove it once and for all.
