Today Malware’s bytes anti malware, after the update, detect Oldmacdonald.exe like a file infected with a trojan virus.

This is a new false positive from another antimalware.

Old McDonald: It is a false positive detection. May I know which version of Autorun Eater are you using(as detected by Malwarebytes)? They have previously fixed the problem so it is puzzling why they’re detecting it as a malware again. Thank you for the info.

Old McDonald: No, it is only installable on a Windows OS. Autorun Eater was created to counter the threat posed by autorun viruses and a Mac probably doesn’t suffer from a similar issue. Hope this helps.

Old McDonald: It can be implemented and it shouldn’t be very difficult to do it. But the thing is, I see it as a false sense of security. It may prevent users from infecting their computers when they double-click the drive to access it but still, it doesn’t stop the malware itself from infecting the flashdrive(or any other removable storage device). Some malwares may not be hidden and users may accidentally execute it. The ‘con’ file is also not deleteable using the conventional method of right-click-delete which some users may find as intrusive.

With Autorun Eater, users are warned of the presence of suspicious autorun.inf files and the user decides whether to remove it or not. With this the user is aware that their removable storage device is infected and they should scan it using an updated antivirus after removing the autorun.inf file thus preventing the accidental execution of visible malware files. Autorun Eater acts like early warning system, pointing out threats that the user should pay attention to. Hope this helps

Old McDonald: Autorun Eater removes the suspicious autorun.inf file and then ‘refreshes’ the drive to its normal state. It’s nothing complicated, really. Because malwares can attack from a lot of sources it is not impossible for other malwares to compromise Autorun Eater which is why you should use a good and updated antivirus software alongside Autorun Eater. Yes, Autorun Eater works like a ‘resident shield’ which actively monitors all drives for any suspicious autorun.inf file. Hope this helps.

We have lots of PC and Mac computers at work. I wouldn’t be surprised if some staff switched to Mac OSX because of the virus problems on PC’s. I haven’t yet seen a single virus or security compromise on a mac….

Old McDonald: You’re welcome! It’s our pleasure to help stop the autorun viruses that is spreading like wildfire. PC are getting lots of infection due to it’s popularity but malwares for Macs are gaining traction too. You might see security compromises on Macs in the near future too. But the best thing is to do is to exercise wisdom which can ensure a safe computer environment.

Old McDonald: Please refer to your previous comment regarding the hotkey. About the GUI window, currently I don’t see it as necessary because I think most users(even myself) do not access the menu often. It’s usually only once or twice after installation so there’s not much point of making one though I might look into it in the near future.

Old McDonald: At the moment there is no way to remove or change the hotkey for Autorun Eater but you can exit Autorun Eater(before the game) if you do not want it to interfere with your game. Exiting will remove the hotkey set by Autorun Eater. Hope this helps.

Old McDonald: The tray menu is accessible via the tray icon(righ-click for tray menu). Autorun Eater actively monitors the drives for any suspicious autorun.inf files. You don’t need to manually scan a drive(except for A: and B: if you have them). Hope this helps.
